Freento MCP · Open-source modules for Magento 2

Your Magento Store, Connected to AI.

Two Magento 2 modules that let Claude, ChatGPT and other AI assistants work with your store over the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — an open standard for connecting AI to external systems.

Ask about orders, customers and stock in plain language. Let the assistant change prices, ship orders and update products — with a preview before anything is saved.

Example conversationAI assistant + Freento MCP
Find products that are marked in stock but have qty 0, then mark them out of stock. Dry run first.
get_stock_single_stockupdate_stock · dry_run

3 products are in stock with zero quantity. Nothing was saved yet:

24-MB04 in stock → out of stock
24-WB02 in stock → out of stock
24-UG06 in stock → out of stock

Apply these changes?

Yes, apply.
update_stock × 3
Done. 3 products are now out of stock.

Two Modules, One Endpoint

Start with read-only access. Add the write module when you want the assistant to change data. Both use the same endpoint, clients, tokens and roles.

Freento MCP

Read · 18 tools

Gives the assistant read access to orders, carts, products, prices, stock, customers, admin users and system versions. Every tool supports filtering, sorting, pagination and aggregation.

composer require freento/module-mcp
freento/magento-2-mcp →

Freento MCP Write

Write · 9 tools

An add-on to Freento MCP. Lets the assistant create products, edit attributes, prices, stock and categories, comment and ship orders, issue offline refunds and update customer accounts.

composer require freento/module-mcp-write
Freento/Magento-2-MCP-write →

How It Works

The module adds an MCP server to your store. The assistant sends requests to it, the server checks the token and the role, and runs the tool inside Magento.

AI assistant
Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT or any MCP client
Freento MCP server
An endpoint on your store. Checks the OAuth token and the ACL role
Tools
18 read tools, plus 9 write tools if the add-on is enabled
Magento 2
Store data, read and changed through Magento’s own services

What You Can Ask

The assistant runs several queries, cross-references the results and answers in plain language. Examples from the module guides:

Revenue by month for the last 12 months

Find all orders over $500 that are still processing

Average order value by payment method

Top 10 customers by total order value

You Stay in Control

An AI assistant with access to a live store needs clear limits. They are built in.

✓

OAuth clients and access tokens

Every AI client gets its own OAuth client and token, created in Magento Admin. Disable one client without touching the others.

✓

Permissions per tool

An ACL role lists exactly which tools a client may call. A reporting assistant never sees a single write tool.

✓

Write access is off by default

After installation write tools are hidden everywhere. One switch in the config turns all write access on or off at once.

✓

Dry run before any change

Every write tool can preview the change without saving anything, and every result reports the old and the new values.

✓

Anonymity mode

Hide emails and names from tool responses, so customer personal data is not sent to a third-party AI service unless you need it.

✓

Changes go through Magento itself

Write tools use Magento service contracts, so validation, events, plugins and indexers of Magento and third-party modules run as usual.

Set Up in Three Steps

01

Install the module

One Composer package. The write add-on is a second, optional package.

02

Create a role and a client

In Magento Admin pick the tools the assistant may use, create an OAuth client and generate a token.

03

Connect your assistant

Add the store endpoint to Claude Code, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT or any other MCP client.

Requirements: Magento 2.4.x (Open Source or Commerce), PHP 8.1 or higher. Full guides are in the Freento MCP and Freento MCP Write repositories.

Need a Tool That Isn’t There Yet?

Both modules are open source. We can install them, set up roles for your team, and build custom tools for your store’s own data.
